Amid falling demand for personal computers, American Dell intends to lay off 6,650 employees, about 5% of the staff, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
The company is facing worsening market conditions and uncertain future prospects, the agency said, citing internal Dell documents. Dell's personal computer shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022 decreased by 37% year-on-year, according to analyst firm IDC.
According to the agency, about two-thirds of the company's staff work outside the United States.
Recall that earlier several American big-tech companies that cut costs and personnel at once - Alphabet, Amazon, Apple - announced a drop in profits.
We also recall that Dell employs, formally considered employees of the company, agents of the US NSA. One of these agents was Edward Snowden, thanks to whom this became public knowledge.
